Dan Donovan's High Pressure Practical Class for The Stationary Engineer License is Hands Down a Must... I would recommend this class to anyone taking the DOB's practical test. I don't think you could pass the test with-out taking his class. Dan has Site-Specific knowledge of the equipment you will be tested on, which is key to passing! He will teach you EXACTLY what you need to know to pass-This class meets once a week. Dan will answer any and all questions you have and is an Excellent teacher. He also records the class and sends you a copy of the class each week, so that you can review it and study from it. I listened to the recording on my drive back and forth to work, which was a huge help! When your test is coming close, Dan puts you through his own practical to see if you're ready for the real test, which again is a key factor for the real test.  If you're ready he will let you know, if not, he will let you know. Upon getting ready for the Test, Dan will always answer any phone calls with questions you might have that come to mind while not in his class, again a huge plus!! Professional and an Amazing Teacher Dan Donovan's Class is a MUST if you want to pass the high pressure practical. I honestly don't know how you can pass this test without his class-Everyone I know who has the NYC stationary engineer license has taken His class. This class is a must &

It was an absolute pleasure to have the chance to take Daniel Donovans High Pressure Boiler Operating Engineer license course.  His course goes above and beyond the typical  preparation class that may focus on teaching to a test; rather, Daniel shares his extensive knowledge of the industry in a manner that greatly helps his students become even better Engineers. His lessons are well organized and include fantastic slide presentations for both in person settings and in Zoom classrooms.  Presentations include images of equipment, and a wide variety of custom made visual aids and flow charts that greatly facilitate the understanding of equipment, processes and concepts important in the industry.  In addition to sharing his own vast knowledge base, he researches deeper into important topics and concepts from a variety of sources, including books, manuals and from experts in the field.  His captivating speaking skills, and the ability to often engage with his students also greatly add to the quality of the presentations.  In my personal experience in various classroom settings, including apprentice trade schools and college courses, Daniel Donovan is one of the best teachers I’ve encountered.

Daniel Donovans NYC High Pressure Steam prep class is by far the absolute best class to take if you are serious about passing both the written and practical exams. I used Mr. Donovan after so many of my colleagues took his class and said his is the best prep class out there. He is well-versed, thorough, and  professional; his curriculum is well-informed, and a necessity. I cannot say enough good things- he is so helpful, the class setting is interactive, and he takes the job of educating his students seriously. I would not have passed both tests had it not been for these classes, well worth the time and the investment. 

As a current stationary engineer I can’t thank Mr. Donovan enough for all his hard work and dedication that he gives to his students. From college courses to refrigeration classes  no teacher has touched the teaching skills that’s Mr. Donovan possess. He is always willing to make extra time for students that may be struggling, and makes it very clear you’re a student in his class until you pass which ever exam you are studying for. From the knowledge he has with test taking to knowledge he has picked up over the many years in the field Mr. Donovan always had an answer to any question. I can’t thank him enough and would recommend him for any course. 

The first thing I would like to say is that without this class I don't think that I would have passed the Practical.  Dan helps you understand high and low pressure boiler plants and all the equipment.  In this class I learned that we do things a certain way not only because its code but also to preserve the equipment and run a safe and efficient plant.  Dan and Steve are Gentlemen.  They answered all my calls and texts, even for questions that I thought were dumb questions.  I asked questions about my plant at work, and they also helped me with those questions and now my plant is running a lot better.  At first I was a little intimidated because when you start the class you could be starting where they left off last Wednesday, so I felt a little lost in the first class.  Once I understood the structure of the class I fell right into the groove of it.  The understanding of why the equipment works the way it works is critical to passing the practical, and this class is spot on in helping you understand each piece of equipment.  Make sure to ask your questions and study, they are giving you the tools to pass.  I give this class a 5 out 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars.

I began taking your class before Covid-19 was even a thought.  Your class was very informative as well as instructional.  The pictures and slides of actual high pressure boilers and their components helped to visualize the operation of the plant.  What brought everything together Sir, was your dialogue with the class.  Because of your years of experience and expertise as a High Pressure Engineer you were able to answer all of our questions and helped the class to see why a certain situation lead to another taking place.  I thank you very much for the time you took in helping each of us.  When I was scheduled to take my practical at Queens County, Covid hit and everything shut down.  By the time I was rescheduled, I was busy with life and did not reply to the email confirming my new date. 

Having said this, I encourage all those interested, to take your class.  It goes beyond what is expected in the practical exam!

Dan Donovan’s HP practical class is, in my opinion, the best possible way to prepare for your exam. Dan and Steve are true experts in their field. They take time outside of the scheduled class to work with each student on an individual basis to ensure you’ll be ready when your date comes up. In addition, the class will provide you with clear examples on just about anything/everything you can expect on your practical. Dan really takes the time to explain working principles and asks questions of the students to make sure you fully understand the material. After taking Dan’s class for a little over month and truly committing to the study material daily, I was able to walk into the practical exam with confidence and pass on my first go.     This High Pressure Boiler class is second to none. You will not only come out of this class ready for the Stationary Engineer practical exam but you will come out with a better understanding of how to operate your boiler plant efficiently. The classes are conducted on zoom and new classes are released on a weekly basis which allow you to go back and learn at your own convenience. Steve’s help in the class is another added bonus. He will work with you on his own time off class hours and will help tutor you to better understand the class lessons. With in a month of your test day they will make sure you are more than ready to go, by drilling you with questions and procedures. I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to learn from this boiler prep class and highly recommend to all whom are preparing for the exam themselves.

Mr. Donovan’s practical prep course was invaluable for passing the steam practical. Something that stood out to me upon completion of the course was how well it was structured. The combination of repetition, note taking, study material and new ideas put forth in every class allowed me to not only drill in everything I needed to know, but also keep me on my feet for anything that was thrown at me during the actual test. Mr. Donovan himself was the exact teacher you would want in any classroom scenario. Oiler:

I was a part of Mr. Donovan's oiler prep class and was able to do well on the exam. The class covers not just grease and oiler-specific information, rather it covers anything that could be asked (sprinkler systems, code, formula-based questions, etc). There were also guest speakers who were more than qualified to speak on their topic. You won't find a better class because nobody covers as much information as efficiently as Mr. Donovan.

Hello Dan . Your class is amazing . I found a new method of pausing and writing down everythings that’s said in class which takes a very long time . Between 2 jobs and family responsibilities moms rehab I hardly have time to sleep but when I am awake and have time to spare I’m wroting everything down like a screen play the only thing different I’d  wish was if we could start from the begining for example water softeners and really dive deep and move on to the next piece of equipment . But I understand that’s probably impossible being other students are at different levels . Unfortunately for me I’m backs up and need to really dive in from A -then once I know I got that I move onto B . Unfortunately life is kicking my ass and responsibilities I have are getting in the way . This class is amazing and without you and Steve this test is impossible . Also I appologize for being in and out of the class because of course Wednesdays at 5-8 I work so I’m not always present during class . Like I said I’m trying this new method of writing everything down like a screen play and eventually piecing it together in order . I deeply appreciate all the knowledge you’ve given us I just wish I could be home and dedicate the hours needed for this test on a daily basis. I’m just hoping life releases its grip on me and allows me to focus 1000% on this test because that’s what it’s going to take for me . 🙏🏻

I recently completed a Stationary Engineer practical class, which I attended every Wednesday. I thoroughly enjoyed the Q&A sessions, led by Danny, who took the time to thoroughly explain complex topics. The emphasis on memorizing procedures was invaluable, and I found rewriting them by hand to be a highly effective learning technique.

The class recordings were also extremely helpful for reviewing notes and ensuring accuracy. Steve's encouragement and push to excel were instrumental in my success.

I highly recommend this class to anyone interested in stationary engineering. To get the most out of it, dedicate at least 3 hours daily to studying and practicing procedures. Don't hesitate to ask questions, no matter how trivial they may seem.

Dan’s Class for the high pressure steam practical is the ONLY way to study for the test. Dan and Steve are two very smart engineers who know how to explain and teach anything related to steam. If you or anyone is having trouble at one part, these guys will spend time with you to make you get it correctly. The high pressure boiler class was very informative.  It was an accurate representation of the knowledge that one should know both for the test and as an engineer/operator in any steam generation facility.  In my opinion, the mock practical that Dan goes through with you is the most valuable portion of the course.  It allowed me to test my knowledge of what I’ve learned, identified my primary shortcomings or weak points, and better prepared me for the test.  I would highly recommend anyone interested in pursuing the high pressure boiler license to participate in the course to better prepare themselves and maximize their chance for success.
